It seem amazing that only 33 hours ago, Bob and I were packing our bags and reviewing our check lists in sweltering 90 degree Santa Barbara, and now we are in our charming B&B in cool Perth on Friday, trying to decide where to go for dinner.
After dashing around all Wednesday trying not to forget vital stuff, I finally gave up and went to grab a shower at 2:30...and noticed a small puddle under the water valve for my toilet! Bob came upstairs to try and tighten it, to no avail. We considered turning off the water all together, but then we would be returning in November to terraces full of pots of dead plants. So in a panic we called trusty Stewart’s Derooting and 20 minutes later a plumber was at the door and 15 minutes more our problem was solved. But what if the valve had started leaking on Thursday and continued until we returned? Too awful to even contemplate!
After our plumber left, we took 17-yr old .Jane Cat to the Cat House Hotel to stay for 26 days as she can’t be taken care of by her usual cat sitter as she requires an injection of saline solution every other day to combat her failing kidneys. No one sees or touches our cat, so we had no choice. Hard to say which of the three of us was mare traumatized by the experience, but she’s tough and will probably survive.
At 5:30 Mark arrived and we packed everything into a rental car and drove to LAX with Mark proceeding to United while we were dropped off at the Bradley terminal for our Qantas flight. Reviving gin and tonics and a steak sandwich later, we got to our gate and at 11:00 squeezed onto our 747. We had to sit at the terminal for a hour while Qantas amazingly waited for some lost soul to find the aircraft; a little worrisome as we have a tight connection in Melbourne.
